Coding in the AAdvantage Acct #s???
Published by: webmaster 2009-01-08

  • I signed up for AA in 1981 and have a 7 numeral account number. AA employees comment on the fact that there are no letters in my account number all the time. My brother's account starts with CLA, another's starts with S, and my Dad's starts with YY. I wonder if there is any significance to the lettering?

  • My AAdvantage date is 05/01/81 and number starts with a zero (063xxxx). At that time I was Lifetime Admirals Club. AC members were automatically enrolled when AA started the program. I'm sure this was a factor in my low number, since my last name begins with a letter near the very bottom of the alphabet.

  • This may have been a useless topic, but I'm glad to see it generated some interest. My 7 digits are 610xxxx from 11/17/81. No initials among my family members. Lastly, I wouldn't want to be playing poker on this hand - not even a pair.

  • I've never had anyone comment on the fact that I have an ANNNNNN account number (from 1985), but I've had lots of comments about the fact that the six digits include four 7s in a row.

Anyone for account number poker? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

  • I have all numbers from 1981, and no one has ever said anything...

  • Well I've got a letter and six numbers (from 9/22/83), with four sixes in a row. Do we count high or low, earlier or later, Efrem?!

  • So how did the coding work at first:

    All numbers.
    One Alpha then all numbers.
    Two alpha's then all numbers?
    Three alpha's then all numbers?

    Anyone have a clue?

  • ...even snobbier.

  • An AAdvantage account with 7 numeric digits is a very old number. Then it was an alphabetic character and 6 numbers.

Now random generated with no scheme involved except it does contain a check-digit. Does not use alpha O or I, but does use 1 and zero. Always ends in numeric (ck digit). Can have alphabetic characters anywhere (except last digit).

When I see a number with 7 numeric digits, it is like a neon light.

  • If I am not mistaken, they went in numerical order up to a point, then started the first position with a letter, and moved steadily across adding letters in positions where they run out of numbers. Kind of like license plates. I have 1 letter and 6 numbers--I am an old timer also.

  • I joined October 04, 1984 and have 1 Alpha and 6 numeric. N23nnnn

Call me crazy but I enjoyed this thread and knowing the numbering scheme! Alfred--

  • Both my mother and I became an AAdvantage member in 1993. We both have ###LL##. But, the two letters in both of ours are our initials. Anyone else? I thought they were all like this till my wife became a member recently.

EXP all domestic last year. That's why I changed jobs. I'll be happy qualifying PLT this year.

But, I can't complain about living on 767's business class!

  • My wife received her AAdvantage card Friday, 01May1981. All numeric 20XXXXX.

I received mine Wednesday, 10November1982. Mine is also all numeric, 95XXXXX.

  • Okay, let's carry it farther---who's got the oldest, (read lowest) AA seven digit number.
Mine's not that old (all numbers though!),
    and begins 91XXXXX.

  • I was wrong (didn't see the start date on my e-summary): I enrolled on 10/18/82 and I have all numbers starting with 92.

I am trying to figure out based on these posts whether the numbers are sequential based on your start date, or were 7 random numbers up to a certain point when they added in letters?

  • To know if you were really have an original number of antiquity, the original AAdvantage numbers were a conversion from Admirals and the AActive American Travelers Club. That was the basis of the original AAdv memberhship long before any members were solictated that were not beng associated with those groups. Long before my time.

  • VRX####.

No offense, what exactly is the point of this topic?

  • Numbers and "gazillion" miles! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

    dAAvid -

  • Interesting thread! Being a newer AAdvantage member, I don't have an all numberic account number (or even 1 alpha & 6 numbers) like some of you. However, I do have both a "V" and a "B" in my account number which necesitates my using the always fun phrases "V - like Victor" and "B - Boy".

  • Duplicate... doh!

  • Roger,

In US poker, four 7s beat four 6s.

  • But I now know I have something to be snobby about around all these gazillion milers.

  • I have all numbers as well, but no remarks from AA.
