KLM is Matching All My AAdvantage Miles !
Published by: admin 2009-01-08

  • For some reason I checked out the KLM board last night and saw a thread on where KLM's Flying Dutchman has an offer to match your miles and status from any FF program. Condition is that the member must travel at least 20 segments on KLM or their partners (CO,NW) and be a top tier member on the other airline. I've booked nine segments already on one trip to FRA from DFW for $558. I'm sure I can get a few CO flights for less than that as well. You have 6 months to get all the segments and you have to sign up for this offer by 1/15/02. One major hurdle is the member must have an address in Europe, Africa, India, or the Caribbean. I have an office in Europe so I'm OK. If you have friends in Europe maybe you can ask if you can use their address http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I called the FD desk in Amsterdam and told them the amount of AAdvantage miles I have (over 2 million) and they said no problem.

So go over to the KLM board and read about this offer. There are links to sign up and to get a KLM FD account.

(Sorry if I offended anyone by posting this on the AA board but otherwise I would have missed out on a great opportunity. Its even more rewarding than LatinPass !!!)

With the application form, do you accept a print of my online account
statement or do I need to get one from Lufthansa? (I only subscribe to
    online statements with Miles&More)

The above is the email I got from KLM.

  • And then the bad news sets in for us North Americans:

    • Participants must be older than 2 years and reside in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean or the Indian subcontinent.

The problem is that the printout does not have your address on it (at least, mine doesn't). Guess I'll call CS to ask for them to fax me an official mileage tally with my 'new' address on it

hvd -- This is incorrect. Here's from the horse's mouth (http://www.klm.be/new_members/new_members.asp):

"That's why, both for new and existing members, we will adopt and match the service level and award points you have earned in any other airline loyalty program when you enroll for this special action in KLM's Flying Dutchman program."

  • Do you have to have your AA account address in Europe or just the new KLM account address?

  • If it's worth it to you to get a European address with a remailer and whatnot, you could move your US FF account to that address and still have time for the KLM promotion. It certainly would be worth it if you have a significant amount of miles and are otherwise eligible, although somewhat of a hassle and certainly pushing the envelope a bit on the rules.

This is, of course, assuming that your US FF program allows foreign addresses in the program.

  • I got one question - Is service point same as mile? 1 service point = 1 mile. If I fly from SFO to NRT via NW, I will usually get 5500 miles in NW program, and then I can choose to put in in FD for 5500 service pts?

  • The address for your KLM FD account must have a non-US address. I sent them a copy of my AA account from the internet. It doesn't have my address on it and hopefully they will accept it in lieu of a true AAdv. statement.

  • According to a post by JonNYC in the thread on this topic in MilesBuzz!, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/005729.html , "The application specifically says you must use the same address as the FF statement you are submitting to be matched." I haven't seen the form, just taking info from that post and passing it on, but if I were KLM I'd want to protect myself somewhat against hordes of Yanks setting up mailing addresses in Europe for this purpose.

For all of you US folks contemplating using European offices, re-mailers, etc. to take advantage of this offer -- do you not think THIS IS DISHONEST -- the wording says reside

I think JonNYC is mistaken. I'm looking at the application printout and can't find anything there that would require one to use the same address.

  • There are actually 2 different forms out there. One has a space for address, etc. The other has only space for account numbers and signature. I'm not sure why they are different, or where each is from.

  • The problem is that they seem to want you to transfer miles and status not to match them.

  • So is a print out from the airlines website acceptable? I asked a lady at KLM FD help desk and she said she thought it would be OK to use a copy from the website but wasn't 100% sure.

  • I can see if you have megamiles on AA, it might be worthwhile to transfer your AAdvantage address to Europe and set up a re-mailing service to get any statements/tickets/certificates you might need AAdvantage to send to you.

Incredibly generous offer. Is KLM in trouble financially or are they so secure with their position that this is basically a land-grab for top customers?

  • One form is for new members, one for existing FD members. The one for existing members only had account info and signature.

Also FD Helpdesk told me that ONLY original statements (prints off the web) will be accepted.
