Am I covered, insurance-wise, with my Aerogold card if I am travelling on a self-arranged trip using air booked with miles, with all taxes and fees covered with the Aerogold card? I'm specifically interested in flight delay/cancellation and lost baggage coverage.
I'm going to be flying in areas subject to typhoons, monsoons, and other extreme natural phenomena, which, should they force me to overnight, will put me out of pocket. Additionally, since I will be making lots of sub-24h stops, in the event my bag goes astray, I will likely not see it again until I'm home. For a week. :D
The four answers to "am I covered?" I've heard from CIBC so far:
1) Yes.
2) No.
3) Yes, if you pay at least 75% of the fare with the card. (Response: "But the fare is zero." Counter-response:"Oh.")
4)Yes, but only if you are redeeming miles directly gained from purchases with the card.
Anyone able to shed any light on this? Thanks.
Note that you are not covered for trip cancellation because of death or illness in your family. You have to purchase this type of insurance prior to booking your travel. Some insurance companies will allow you to buy it up to a few days after booking. Same thing for Amex Gold.
Yes you are. The coverage specifically allows for coverage when flying on Aeroplan redemption tickets. Thanks for that, very promising... now to muddy the waters further: my trip consists of two award tickets; one redeemed using UA miles, and on nested inside that using AC miles (working the award bargains to my advantage). Most of the flights are on AC metal. Do you know if there is any distinction made between an AC award ticket drawn on UA miles vs. AC miles?
I'm beginning to think a supplementary policy might put my mind more at ease.
Is there an online link to CIBC's T+Cs anywhere? Their site, like their call centre. offers precious little in the way of information.

T+C's are a couple clicks away from the CIBC home page: http://www.cibc.com/ca/visa/agreements-insurance.html. Anyhow, the relevant section to your question appears to be as follows:
