AP missing credit debacle
Published by: webmaster 2009-01-07

  • I am long used to having to send in BP's via snail mail to AP in order to get credit for past flights, this happens often and I am not the only one as reflected by many posts on FT. I have my saved form letter so I change the dates and flight segments and send the whole kit to that very busy PO BOX across the country.

My latest correspondence was for a past trip on US (YUL/PHL/RTP return), my BP's show my AP number and status was recognized as I was assigned to ZONE 1 for boarding (I am Elite) and had no problems using the US Airways Club lounge. Nothing posted to AP account so I print off my BP's and send them in (back in may). Only today I receive a letter from AP with my BP's included stating this is not good enough and I need to send in my ticket (?) or a copy of my receipts. What???

First off, 4 months to get an answer from AP is poor customer service, 2nd, I have always sent in my BPs and have never had an issue. It is clearly stated on the letter I have 6 months to request missing credits, if they took 4 months to respond to my initial request looks like I can kiss these segs. goodbye.

This is a great example of the mess AP is regarded as and how they really don't give a rat's a** about their members. I get better service from my bank and that's saying a hell of a lot.

PS. I had called AP before sending my docs in and an agent even told me "send in your BPs" since they could not credit this trip over the phone. And forget about that useless Request Flight Credit web page, theat has never worked for me, ever, I must have tried over 25 times.:td:

  • I phoned AP last week as I have several missing credits that I sent off over 6 weeks ago. I was told that they were currently processing claims from May 6th! So after carefully planning my travel plans to hit Elite in the next two weeks, I risk having to wait a while longer and miss out on several weeks of *G benefits.

  • I was told that they were currently processing claims from May 6th!

Sounds like Passport Canada. Hehehehehe. :p

  • In June I sent in several boarding passes and tickets that had not been credited to my AP account. I called about three weeks ago to ask why they were still not posted and was told to call back in a month as they had not got to the June mail yet.

If they have such a backlog of entries that June mail is not yet entered into the system, it bodes poorly for the IT system that supposedly is programmed to capture the data.

  • This issue should be racheted up a few notches on the AC food chain. Time for some executive attention.

This is getting to be a frequent issue....

  • But things have gotten much worse recently. For SEs, it used to be possible to call in, give the missing segment info and the e-ticket number and the points would be posted almost immediately. You can still make the call, but now it takes 4-6 weeks apparently because they want to do the manual checking to ensure that you're not claiming the points on another *A airline. What a horrendous makework project.

In June I sent in several boarding passes and tickets that had not been credited to my AP account. I called about three weeks ago to ask why they were still not posted and was told to call back in a month as they had not got to the June mail yet.

I have about 70,000 miles left to fly this year and have been debating switching over to Flying Blue as that will get me top status there and I already have earned Elite on AC this year (assuming those flights I sent in actually do get posted). I'd like to go for SE, but am nervous that if the flights I sent in don't post, I might just miss it by a few miles, so better to start climbing the ladder at FB.

Anyway, I have to buy the tickets for my first fall trip within a week or so, so I'm updating my FB account, just in case the AP miles don't post by then. With my new passport, I needed a name change on my FB account, so I faxed the request in last Wednesday ( i.e. 5 days ago) and when I just checked my account they have already made the change. Meanwhile AP has not even opened the letter I sent them in June.

    Hmmm...

  • Only today I receive a letter from AP with my BP's included stating this is not good enough and I need to send in my ticket (?) or a copy of my receipts. What???It's actually a standard requirement across all *A FFPs -- a BP only proves that you took the flight; it does not establish the type of fare you were travelling on, booking class, etc.

  • FYI, my points NEVER post automatically from PHL to YYZ even though my AP number is on the BP. I always have to send in the BP and receipt, so it must be something particular to that airport.

But here's a lulu that happened the last time I was there. I checked in around 2:15 for a 3:25 flight. Security took a good 30 minutes, so I went to the RCC to quickly change my clothes into more comfy stuff for traveling. I was surprised when the attendant commented on having a long time to wait for my flight. Huh? A quick look at by BP showed that the airhead at the front had checked me in for the later flight departing around 7:30 p.m. (Mea culpa for not checking it!) Luckily the RCC attendant was able to get me back onto my original flight. When I went to board the aircraft, the 2 ladies in front of me were also told that they were trying to board the wrong flight. Their BPs were also on the 7:30 flight. So same airhead must have also checked them into the later flight. They also managed to get back onto the 3:25 flight.

Thanks for this - I'm waiting for a flight from 3 weeks ago on this route, no joy yet. Guess I'll have to package up the paperwork and send it off....:(
