which soccer sim?

  • I've played Fifa since RTWC98, and have just kind of become frustrated with it. Fifa 2003 is the one I'm playing now, and I'm becoming comfortable with it, but it is too monotonous, even in the world class setting. I saw Winning Eleven 7 at best buy the other day, but I'm not totally convinced, and World Tour Soccer sounds nice, but I don't know about that one either.

My main concern is the game play. I want the next soccer match in a season be nothing like the last one. That's what I hated about EA, with myself taking 10 shots, the computer taking one, and the score ended up being 3-1, for almost every game. I'm also concerned about the editing and/or adding teams/players/competitions with these other games, which is why I've stuck with Fifa. A greater sense of team management would also be nice, and have the player's attributes actually dictate what they do, instead of one player at 50 running faster, heading better, and defending better than a player at 100. I'm leaning more towards Winning Eleven 7, and will do some research on World Tour Soccer, but I'd love any input from you guys. Who would've thought looking for a soccer sim would prove so stressful.

  • PES 3 or Winning Eleven 7 i believe its called stateside, cant go wrong.

  • I'm aware that WE doesn't have the fifa license, so what kind of leagues are there in the game, and is it possible to have like a player pool for national teams, where you can change the roster and such.

  • if you're looking for realism, we7 is the way to go. once you've played it for awhile, you'll realize that you would've paid $50+ for it. it's that good.

  • WE is a challenge and therefore has high replay value.

Can't really say that about the FIFA series. FIFA is like a one night stand. Might look great from the outset, but after five minutes you're finished and ready for another beer.

there are no leagues in the game. iirc there are 60 national teams and 72 clubs. clubs have something like 10 for the big 3, then a good amount (6-8 maybe?) for france and germany. holland has the big 3, 2 scottish, 2 turkish, i think some greek ones. i cant remember the rest.
for the national team you can put whoever you want on the team as long as they are in the game or if you want to create them.

  • Winning Eleven is real football... you will realize that you have to shoot with a player's strong foot if you want to score, especially from distance... you have to rest players in cups/league play. On 4 start difficulty you wont win a masterleague game for a year, not with the generic team which is crap... Certain strategies work better for certain players, whereas in Fifa, formations never really changed anything for me, not other than defence and attack... In WE you can position down to the blade of grass, where your left wing will be, and if he does not have pace, and a left foot, its gonna be a long day for him. The referee's calls are better than any game before... you might as well ignore the slide tackle button for the first 2 weeks you play... you can only make a clean one with impeccable timing.. otherwise its yellow, and often red.... very realistic... I played 16 seaons of WE6. I have played 4 of WE7 and 4 cups... I am yet to win the world cup with England, their lack of pace and strength of forwards (that can shoot) hurts you against Germany, Italy, Brazil, hell, even Cameroon who have a fast team...

  • It better be worth the $30-$40 i'm about to spend on it.
