6. Attendance of a Court ?
You could be a plaintiff. You could be a complainant. You may be a petitioner. You can be a witness called by the Court. You could be an accused bailed out and now asked to attend Court proceedings in your case. In each case, you are given time and date and that must be kept in mind. If you an accused and you are not present, your bail bond shall be cancelled and you could be arrested once again and then you shall have to seek bail for another time. If you are a complainant and you are absent on the date fixed, then your complaint could be dismissed. If you are a plaintiff or a petitioner, even then your presence is compulsory. Similarly, if you have been summoned by the Court to attend the Court to give evidence, even then you are bound to come and attend the Court in time. At times the Counsels can attend the Court on your behalf in Civil Cases, but in Criminal Cases, you shall have to seek exemption for a particular day on medical grounds or otherwise and for that purpose, you shall have to produce a medical certificate from the prescribed authority. Frequent adjournments are not allowed. Therefore, one should be very cautious and therefore, he must keep a diary and note down each Court case and must see that he is present in the Court till his case is heard and another date is given to him. He must remain contacted with his Counsel so that as and when he is not in a position to come, his Counsel must be present before the Court and must inform the Court that his client is being represented by the Counsel. And when he presents himself before the Court, he must be showing all respect towards the Court and should not do anything which could attract contempt proceedings against him.
